Onychomycosis

The culprit was the little wet socks which bred the fungus and transferred it to the my big toe nail of the right leg.  The "vicks vaporub'' treatment as advised by a few on the net did not meet with the approval of the doctor.  Matters became worse when a 80kg. man with shoes stepped on the affected toe on the steps of Sathyam Theater where I was sitting before entering the hall for a movie.  It developed into an injury and later into the ingrown toe nail.  I was referred to a surgeon.
So, on the appointed day I entered an operation theater of a hospital after nearly 53 years.  It was as a boy of 8 or 9 years, I was operated for a 'tonsillitis' - the operation welcomed by children for the post-operative ice creams they are allowed to consume!  Clad in hospital clothes and a cap to boot, it all looked ridiculous for a ten minute 'surgery'.  My wife was waiting outside the theater like a would be father waiting for the good news of his becoming a father!
Dr. Sridevi (her namesake from the film world would have been more welcome) performed the 'surgery' ably assisted by a stout nurse.  The overhead bright lights were switched on.  The good doctor recited a 'Thirukkural' which justifies telling lies if they produce good results and started poking my toe with local anesthesia shots 6 times telling after every shot that it was the last!  The trouble causing toe nail was removed and showed to me like a newborn to her mother!
After shelling out nearly 3000/- grudgingly for this, I am alive and NOT kicking for fear of hurting the toe!
